Friday Quick Takes (vol. 19)

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Here’s some of what’s going on around here.

one. I’ve been obsessed with these songs recently: I Choose You, Not a Bad Thing, and Pompeii by Glee. They’re at the top of my playlist, and I could listen to them all on repeat.

two. I’ve been so disappointed with our summer garden until recently! We missed spring planting while we were off traveling in Asia and also failed to amend our soil (that will never happen again), so our tomatoes are pitiful and we have a lot of unused raised bed space. BUT, this box is our saving grace. We have lots of cucumbers starting to peek out in between the trellis I put together and a variety of peppers, basil, Korean sesame leaves, and Chinese melons shared by my friend Maria! I can’t wait until we get to start harvesting.

three. We also picked our first 2 carrots a few weeks ago! Gianna had a blast pulling them out herself, I love how much she already knows about gardening at the ripe old age of 2 and 3/4. I washed them off and we peeled and ate them outside. She’s been checking on the other carrot plants every day since then…

four. I’m making this tomorrow for lunch, another great iteration of roast chicken leftovers.

five. I recently discovered The Nesting Place Blog and put the book on hold at the library. Now all I want to do is put stuff up on our oh-so-very-bare walls and create more of a cozy, warm space via some decor. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one of these and I also managed to pick up a pair of circle, wicker framed mirrors on sale at Anthro last weekend.

six. Speaking of shopping, on that same trip I picked up a new pair of jeans that I absolutely love. I’ve alway been into the look of white jeans but there’s no way that I could survive 2 minutes in them without getting a stain from smushed strawberry or dirt from little fingers. The solution? Super light wash jeans. I bought them on super sale at Madewell and it’s no longer on the website, but here’s the closest thing, if you just look at the bottom part’s color. They’re so close to white, but somehow I feel a lot better walking around with a stain on them.

seven. And lastly, I’ve changed up my workout routine. I got a little tired and bored of jogging with the kids in our jogging stroller. It only worked with constantly handing Caleb snacks to survive the long 15 minutes (that boy does not like to be strapped in!) and the summer weather just made it not so appealing to be running outside. I started doing Yoga Meltdown on Youtube and it’s AWESOME. The first time I did it, I thought, “Yoga, how hard can this be?” But, it kicked me in the butt. After doing it for a few weeks during nap time, I feel stronger and more toned.
