Homemade Antibacterial Spray

Next to my homemade diaper spray, this is the make it myself cleaning product that I use the most. Once our baby Gianna started discovering how to use her little hands, virtually everything she could get a hold of went straight into her mouth. I’ve heard of some babies out there who never were interested in putting things in their mouth. I am shocked.

Obviously, you don’t want your baby to put dirty things into their mouths. I’ve seen some moms who carry around disinfectant wipes. Great idea! But, was there a more earth friendly way to do it? I was inspired to try to find a natural version to accomplish the same thing. This spray is perfect.

I’ve used it to wipe down toys, both hand-me-downs and new. I just spray onto a washcloth and give it a nice rub. It’s only 3 ingredients, 2 of which you probably already have around the house. The 3rd, tea tree oil, is a great investment if you are interested in making your own cleaning products. It’s a natural disinfectant and has a nice, natural, clean smell.

More recently, I use the spray the clean out our little potty that we’re using with Gianna. Yes, we’ve begun potty training! More to come on that. Once she’s successfully gone, I rinsed out the potty, give it a spray, rinse out again, and we’re done. Ready for the next time, a few hours later.

I can’t say enough about this spray. Give it a try!

Homemade Antibacterial Spray, adapted from GreenHomeHints.com

1 cup water
1.5 tablespoons liquid soap (not an antibacterial kind)
10-15 drops tea tree oil
spray bottle

Add water to a measuring cup. Stir in soap and tea tree oil. Pour into a spray bottle. Give it a shake and you’re ready to go.
